Jillian’s dress journey. From her first appointment in Vancouver to her destination wedding in Oaxaca, Mexico

The Bisou Bridal Journal

Our bride Jillian married in Oaxaca, and it was every bit as beautiful as you'd imagine. Once the celebrations had settled, she wrote to us about how the day came together, her time with Bisou Bridal, and a few words of wisdom for anyone dreaming up a destination wedding of their own.

Finding the Silhouette

Jillian arrived with a clear vision, to the Boutique. A curated Pinterest board, a silhouette in mind, a clear picture of the bride she saw herself as . Then she began trying gowns on, which is so often where a bride's idea of the dress and the dress itself begin to shift. That is part of the beauty of it. You rarely know until you are standing in it. As Jillian put it, "The dress you pictured isn't always the one you fall in love with.”

Trying on different styles is what helped Jillian understand what actually worked for her body, not just what looked on an inspiration board. Our goal was to listen and guide her toward the gown that felt like hers, supporting her though each step of the process.

Once she found the right silhouette, everything shifted, and that silhouette was the Winton by KYHA.

Getting the Dress to Oaxaca

Choosing the gown was one thing. Getting it safely from Vancouver to Oaxaca was another, and it was one of Jillian's biggest worries. So our team made sure she felt fully prepared for the journey.

"They walked me through exactly how to travel with the dress, how to prepare it before the wedding, and packed it perfectly so my husband couldn't sneak a peek. ... What could have easily become another source of wedding worry turned into one of my favourite parts of planning."

Jillian’s Advice to Future Brides

In Jillian offered a few gentle words for the brides who are just starting out, and we couldn’t agree more. Perfection, she reminded us, doesn’t exist. Her advice: give yourself grace, trust the process, and remember that the dress is one beautiful part of a much larger day.
