Bisou’s fashionistas are in New York City this week as the top designer’s present their collections for Spring 2016! And one of the most highly anticipated shows for us was (and always is) Monique Lhuillier. This time we made our way to Manhattan’s Baccarat hotel for an intimate, salon-style showing of the collection- narrated, look-by-look, by the designer herself!
It was a romantic affair, Monique’s vision for Spring 2016. We expected nothing less. After all, when it comes to femininity, no one does it better! The collection was marked by Monique’s signature handling of lace and highly intricate finishes. From slim to full silhouettes, we saw delicate laces and floral appliques cascade over layers and layers of tulle- so much so, that they seemed to float!
The collection was magical! So it came as no surprise when Monique explained that she’d drawn inspiration this season from the fairytale, “Alice in Wonderland.” Specifically, she had set about exploring feelings of fantasy, curiosity and sensuality. In dreamy shades of peach, blush and ivory we swooned over the luscious and bouyant layers of tulle, the shimmering floral touches, and delicate appliques! And we couldn’t take our eyes off of barely-there straps and illusion necklines, sleeves and even a few delicate side cut-outs!!
Of course there’s a dark side to every fairytale, and that’s where Monique went about bringing a sensual side to her designs. Slinky spaghetti straps, plunging v-backs, and deep necklines took our breath away! It was a sexier side to Monique than what we’ve seen in past seasons.
Our favourite look was a combination of all three elements: an ethereal ballgown featuring layers of of twinkling tulle, a high, sheer neck with long sparkly sleeves, and a plunging sweetheart neckline and sheer, open back. Fit for a modern-day Alice, this gown was everything we’ve want and expect in a fairytale! We know brides everywhere will agree.
